신념.

그것은 가슴 설레이게 하는 푸른 청춘과 같은것
죽어있는 내 정신을 요동치게 만들어 살아 숨쉬게 만드는것
뜨거운 눈물 숨죽여 삼켜내게 만들며
내 육신이 어찌되든 모든 고통을 초월하게 만드는것.

아…혼자 품은 신념은 정말 멋진데
자신의 신념을 이루려고 다른사람들을 동원시키게 되면
이거이거… 보통 문제거리가 아닌것이 되는 신념.

신념의 뼈대가 되는 각자의 정의는 다르다.
살아온 방식과 환경이 다 다르기 때문이다.

정의는 일관된 하나일수가 없다.
각자마다 환경마다 시대마다 다 달라지는 정의
그 모든것이 옳다.

각자의 신념대로 사는 것이 맞긴 맞는데
각자 처한 환경과 시대에 따라 달라질수 있으므로
그 어떤 일방의 신념을 강요하여
개개인의 사람들을 자신의 신념의 도구로 삼아서는 안된다.

인간의 삶은 그저 각자 자기만의 신념에 따라
자신만의 정의로운 전쟁을 하며 살 뿐이다.

에이해브 선장에겐 자신이 모비딕을 죽이는 것이 정의겠지만

한편으로 보면 고래 입장에서는 자신이 살던 바다에서 언제나처럼 헤엄치고 있었던 것이 뿐이고, 뭔가 자기등에 꽂히길래 몸부림 한번 친 것 뿐이다.

모비딕 입장에서는 애초에 에이해브를 공격할 의지나 목적같은것은 없이 그저 살기위한 정당방위였을 뿐인데

에이해브는 자신이 먼저 모비딕을 공격해놓고 다시금 모비딕을 악마라며 증오한다.

사람은 자기가 보고싶은대로 보며 살기때문에
인간의 인생이란 결국 자기만의 세상속에서만 살다 죽는것이다.

플라톤의 동굴의 우화처럼 실체를 봐도 그림자를 진짜로 여긴다.

모두가 정의를 외치고, 무엇이 진실인지 알수 없을때는
남이 말하는 신념을 진실로 믿고 내 몸뚱아리 맡겼다간 좆된다.

남이 정의내리고 남이 믿는대로 살지말고
내가 내 스스로의 신념을 바로 세우고 내 소신대로 사는것이
혼란스러운 세상에서 나를 지키는 최선의 방법이다.

자신의 신념을 실현시키기 위해
다른사람들을 도구로 삼지 않아도 되는 세상
지금 시대에는 가능할 듯 싶은데…

에이해브, 증오를 품어야만 살수있었던 자

“나는 미쳐버린 광기다. 그 사나운 광기는 자신을 이해할때에만 잠잠해진다. 나는 팔다리가 잘릴거라는 예언을 들었다. 그리고 나는 다리를 잃었다. 이제 나는 내 다리를 자른 놈의 몸을 잘라버릴거라고 예언한다. 그렇게 되면 나는 예언자이자 실행자가 된다. 이리와서 네가 내 방향을 바꿀수 있는지 보라. 내 방향을 바꾼다고? 너야말로 네 방향을 바꿔라.”

자기 자신의 절망적인 운명에 좌절하지 않고 내 운명의 신은 오직 내가 되어 한낱 운명의 희생양이 되어 꺾여버리지 않겠다고 집념을 불태운 에이해브. 자신의 다리를 잘라버린 모비딕에 대한 단순한 복수심이라기 보다는 자신의 비관적 운명을 내의지로 바꿔내고야 만다는 집념이 복수심으로 발현되었다.

복수심과 같은 강렬한 집념이어야만 좌절스런 삶을 이겨낼 수 있었기 때문이 아니었을까.
