집착이 심한 사람은 항상 자기가 옳다는 확신을 하고 살기에 자신의 말대로 상대가 움직여주기를 바란다. 나의 통제에 상대가 움직여주지 않을경우 엄청난 실망과 분노에 휩싸여 상대를 증오하게 된다.

믾은이들은 자신들이 그토록 열렬히 상대방을 사랑함에도 불구하고 상대에게서 사랑받지 못하고 오히려 상대방을 쫓아버린다는 사실을 이해할 수 없다. 그들은 운명의 잔인함을 탓하며 왜 자신들의 진심으로 상대방의 사랑을 일깨울수 없는지 도저히 이해할 수 없다.

그러나 그는 생명체를 사랑할 수 없는 사람이다. 상대가 꼼짝않고 내옆에만 아무것도 안하고 있어주기를 바라고 통제불가능한 상대의 모습을 견딜수 없어하는건 제멋대로 움직이는 생명을 증오하는 죽음의 연인, 즉 네크로필(시체성애자)의 성향이다.

식물, 동물, 한아이, 한 남자, 한 여자가 무엇을 필요로 하는지 알지못하는한 상대를 통제하려는 나의 바람을 버리지 않는한 나의 사랑은 파괴적이다.
그런 나는 결국 죽음의 연인이 된다.

어떤 식물이 성장하는데 축복이 되는 수분이나 햇볕이 다른식물에겐 치명적이 될 수 있다.

인간도 이와 다름없다.

물을 적게 필요로 하는 화초의 경우, 나는 그 화초가 필요한 양만큼의 물을 줌으로써 화초를 사랑하는 내 마음을 표현한다.

그러나 나에게 “화초를 위해 좋은것"이란 나만의 편견이 있다면, 이를테면 가능한한 물을 많이 주는것이 좋다는 그런 편견에서 물을 준다면 나는 그 화초를 손상시키고 죽이게 될 것이다. 왜냐하면 화초에게 필요한 사랑의 방식대로 사랑할 수 없기 때문이다.

인간은 살아있기에 누구보다도 생명력이 넘치고 변화무쌍할때 매력이 넘친다. 어느 한곳에만 집착하여 상대의 통제불가능함을 증오하고 상대의 자발성을 견디지 못하는 사람은 죽어있는 물건처럼 점차 매력이 사라지고 상대의 생명력까지 죽이게 만든다.
어떤 생명체든지 죽음이 도사리는 곳에는 가지 않는 법이다.

상대가 원하는대로 자유롭게 변화 성장해나가는 그 자체를 아끼는것이 중요하다.

상대에게 변함없는 마음을 강요한다는건 상대의 성장과 자유를 꺾어버리는것이다.

사랑한다는건 상대의 생명력을 사랑한다는 것이고,

생명을 사랑한다는건 그의 자발성, 자생력, 자유를 있는 그대로 존중한다는것이다.

상대를 내가 원하는대로 조종하고 통제하려는 사람은 문제가 생겼을때 폭력적이고 강압적인 방식으로 해결하려는 사람이고, 어떤문제를 사랑으로 해결하고자 마음먹은 사람은 상대로부터 느껴지는 실망을 참아내고, 거듭되는 타격을 인내해낼 수 있는 용기가 있는 사람이다. 또한 이러한 것들을 버티어낼 자신 스스로의 강인함을 믿기에 그것이 가능한것.

상대의 생명력을 존중하고 통제불가능함을 있는그대로 사랑할줄 아는 사람은 그 자신이 넘치는 생명력을 갖춰야만 가능한것이기에 그렇게 모든이의 생명력을 사랑할줄 아는 사람은 모든이를 끌어당기는 매력을 갖게 된다.
